Continuing the Internet self-education theme, “Don’t Fear the Internet” is another great resource bank of instructional videos that explain how the Internet works and teach some basic coding.

The project was cooked up by designers and it, in their words, will “help demystify html and css coding so you can prettify your blogs and quit asking your nerd friends for freebies!”

Introducing Flixmaster, an HTML-5 video editor/player that could enable new ways to experience digital video online.
Since it allows users to produce online video content with a simple drag and drop system, this could be fun technology to explore for digital storytelling projects.

Who doesn’t like Bjork?
Our friends at Jam3 http://www.jam3media.com/ who showed off their new site (coming soon) at FITC (its pretty insane) have been busy working with Bjork on her new site which just launched http://bjork.com/.
Its the first phase of her Biophilia project and it will continue growing over time.
HTML5 and they made their own 3D engine to parse the info coming out of Google Sketchup where it was designed by the Parisian artists M/M.
Editor’s Note: This is an excellent use and example of HTML5 + 3D being used in a site. HTML5 works on mobile and iPad as opposed to Flash, which does not work on i-anything-mobile.

Ever since we’ve seen the extinction of analog audio formats, we’ve been spending time and energy reminiscing and attempting to replicate the look and feel of the classic turntable. There have been tons of projects that will take your MP3s and filter their audio to sound more like the cassette tape or record you remember listening to as a kid and, this blog has covered a great deal of them. The fad isn’t going away anytime soon and if you’ve been keeping up, most recently a project, turntable.fm has been growing out of control (it’s a ton of fun and you should try it out).
wheelsofsteel.net is another great turntable experiment that you should really check out, done by Scott Schiller. He wrote an extensive article on how he went about designing and developing the HTML/Javascript (that’s right – no flash) project here http://www.schillmania.com/content/entries/2011/wheels-of-steel/, and it’s an extremely interesting read. Check it out!

Using four Kinect sensors and some heavy duty realtime processing, 3D videoconferencing has been set up at University of North Carolina.
3D is the latest gimmick when it comes to watching TV, but this is something beyond novelty. Apart from making the “tele” part seem more realistic, the system can use “mixed reality” to track eyes in 3D space. This opens up the door to more serious applications not just about how we’re perceived, but about how we blend our natural communication methods with digital ones.

Imagine using an iPhone in the palm of your hand. Now, do it again but put the phone away.
Using a depth perceptive camera, researchers are able to allow people to use their iPhones remotely. People can tap their palms, swipe or perform other gestures captured by a depth-sensitive video camera. The signals are transmitted to the iPhone using a WiFi radio and the actions are performed in realtime.

Imagine allowing people to use a personal phone or public kiosk by interacting with either themselves (palm touch) or more subtle means, such as voice or other “natural” gestures. We are no longer tethered to the device.

With Hype 1.0, you can create impressive animations and interactive sites in HTML5 without any actual code.
The brainchild of two developers formerly at Apple, Hype was developed as an alternate to Flash. More on their story here: http://bit.ly/mMIFHl
