Most of us are familiar with the current technologies and buzz words of the Web — various browsers, APIs, HTML5, WebGL, etc. But how many know how we got here?

The Evolution of the Web beautifully charts this history. An interactive timeline, it invites you to poke around, browse screen shots of antiquated programs, and click to learn more about different technologies.

Continuing the Internet self-education theme, “Don’t Fear the Internet” is another great resource bank of instructional videos that explain how the Internet works and teach some basic coding.

The project was cooked up by designers and it, in their words, will “help demystify html and css coding so you can prettify your blogs and quit asking your nerd friends for freebies!”

GE exercises their blogging voice

The choices brands make to cultivate their own unique voice and personality on the Internet are often interesting. Here, a well-established brand, General Electric, takes a trendy approach toward blogging.

By posting vintage shots — mostly using Instagram — of significant laboratory tests and research from the past 130 years, GE manages to create more of a niché web presence for their brand, thereby making it more intriguing, and perhaps more accessible, to a larger demographic.

Some great mobile stats:

This is a cool info graph, but one stat has actually changed. Android is the #1 OS as of February this year (whoot):

Mobile internet will pass desktop in a hot minute

This is the current Android fragmentation (right now building to 2.0 and higher is the norm):

Also don’t forget that there is iOS fragmentation, so you need to test on devices that have not been updated to the latest OS.

Android is making a KILLING:

NFC is coming to a phone near you real soon… (better than RFID because it communicates both ways, not just a reader):
