Data is so hot right now, but if you really want to get deep about it, meet Hans Rosling - the Obi-Wan Kenobi of data. This Swedish mega-brain deals with data in a big, big way, using the trend-revealing software he created to do some amazing things. Like identify a new paralytic disease induced by hunger in rural Africa, and more recently the battle against HIV. He argues that preventing transmissions — not drug treatments — is the key to ending the epidemic.
His work is truly inspiring. Lots of great videos about what he has done and is doing on TED.
