Most of us are familiar with the current technologies and buzz words of the Web — various browsers, APIs, HTML5, WebGL, etc. But how many know how we got here?
The Evolution of the Web beautifully charts this history. An interactive timeline, it invites you to poke around, browse screen shots of antiquated programs, and click to learn more about different technologies.

Another Chrome experiment from Google, All Is Not Lost features the band OK Go and members of the dance troupe Pilobolus. Filmed from below a glass floor, bodies move and press against the glass (in seafoam green unitards, no less) to form kaleidoscopic shapes and your personalized inspirational message to Japan.
The online video was first shot in 3D and made possible by HTML5 — hence Google’s connection and endorsement of Chrome as the preferred browser. While it kind of feels like it could have been cooler, the video is reminiscent of the captivating, multi-window viewing experiences of the Wilderness Downtown and Soul-Mirror.

Who doesn’t like Bjork?
Our friends at Jam3 http://www.jam3media.com/ who showed off their new site (coming soon) at FITC (its pretty insane) have been busy working with Bjork on her new site which just launched http://bjork.com/.
Its the first phase of her Biophilia project and it will continue growing over time.
HTML5 and they made their own 3D engine to parse the info coming out of Google Sketchup where it was designed by the Parisian artists M/M.
Editor’s Note: This is an excellent use and example of HTML5 + 3D being used in a site. HTML5 works on mobile and iPad as opposed to Flash, which does not work on i-anything-mobile.

This data visualization of civilian casualties in Afghanistan shows what web browsers can render without the use of plugins. In the words of the Developer and Designer, George Michael Brower:
That this visualization can be viewed in-browser is a testament to the promise of modern web technologies such as WebGL, HTML5 and CSS3, all of which were leveraged in this piece. As browsers adopt support for these standards, developers and their audience will enjoy fewer barriers to rich experiences, hopefully increasing the visibility and appreciation of code as art. Thanks to Ricardo Cabello for three.js as well as Chris Lauritzen and Jono Brandel.
