Around SXSW ’10, Sysomos, a Toronto-based social media software developer, released Fourwhere, a web tool that mashed up Foursquare tips with the Google Maps API to give users an enriched experience of their surroundings.
Earlier this week, the service got a major upgrade, adding comments from Gowalla and Yelp to its map:
Drill into a specific area by searching for it at the top of the site. Right clicking* on the map gives you a menu that lets you either show nearby venues with comments or all venues in the area. If you choose to see venues with comments, Fourwhere will search all three services for tips and display them on the map. You’ll also see a list of all the locations and their comments on the right.
When you click one of the tip bubbles, you’ll see comments from all three services combined in the box, along with an icon to denote which service it came from. Click the user’s picture to get more information about them.

It’s great to see aggregators like Fourwhere organizing the various location-based data bits popping up across the various networks in order to provide users more all encompassing local knowledge.

Spotisquare is a mobile web app that lets you add music (spotify playlists) to places (venues on Foursquare). Smart!

Google Latitude Location History tracks where you’ve been, but also includes privacy controls for how much of your location history you share and with whom. They have released an API for developers here.

From Techcrunch
A mobile version of the site using the HTML5 location component to grab your location information from your phone. Once it does that, you’re taken to this new Places area of Facebook that presumably will have a list of venues around you. From here you can click a button to check-in.

Vicarious.ly
is a real-time location-based stream of information presented in a nice visual way. While the plan is to eventually launch one for many different cities around the U.S. and eventually the world, the first one is based around Austin, for SXSW.
To make it, SimpleGeo partnered with BlockChalk, Brightkite, Bump Technologies, Flickr, Fwix, Foursquare, Gowalla, and Twitter to pull all of their location data and place it both in a constantly-updating stream, and put data points on a Google Map at the top of the page. These data points are represented by the logos of the various companies, so it’s easy to follow visually.

Social data gets even more interesting. Foursquare has added an interesting new layer to your location history. You can now go back in time and see who else checked-in at a particular location from your check-in history. They are also planning on releasing a new iPhone app this week.
