To Tweet, or Not to Tweet

It’s not even a question when it comes to the RSC’s new production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The theater company has enlisted 6 actors to Tweet each other – and their followers, of course – a chronological set of messages from the playscript. The Tweets will be improvised by the actors from a day by day plot grid devised by the production team.

Vicarious.ly real-time location-based stream

Vicarious.ly is a real-time location-based stream of information presented in a nice visual way. While the plan is to eventually launch one for many different cities around the U.S. and eventually the world, the first one is based around Austin, for SXSW.

To make it, SimpleGeo partnered with BlockChalk, Brightkite, Bump Technologies, Flickr, Fwix, Foursquare, Gowalla, and Twitter to pull all of their location data and place it both in a constantly-updating stream, and put data points on a Google Map at the top of the page. These data points are represented by the logos of the various companies, so it’s easy to follow visually.

Site that changes color based on how you’re feeling

Here’s a fun idea by Bleed out of Norway for the Beyond Light blog.

Tweet your current mood with the #beyond light in your twitter message to change the light mood of the site.

Tweeting words like ‘calm’ or ‘aggressive’ will trigger different illustrations to appear, visually changing the page to suit how you’re feeling. Love this kind of stuff. Reminds me of We feel fine.

“The NBC Olympics Twitter Tracker by Stamen Design blurs the lines between television and real-time social updates and offers a visually stimulating story around individual athletes, sports and other aspects of the Olympics.”

Twitter code swarm

February 8th, 2010  |  Friends  |  Categories: Data Visualization, Online, Social, Video  |  Tags: , , , ,  |

Twitter code swarm is a visualization of Twitter’s development from April 2006 – January 2010. The video was created by developer Ben Sandofsky, and posted on the Twitter developer blog.

‘ Code Swarm represents developers as icons and files as dots that change color and brightness. As a developer adds, or “commits” code to a development project, the dot changes color and magnetizes towards that developer creating a different hive of activity.’

This is an interesting way to illustrate the evolution of an otherwise intangible development process.

An 80 year-old grandma Twitters with pen-and-paper using a fax machine and service called “Celery.” She writes the message she wants to tweet and faxes it to the service to update for her. Bless!
